Senior Software Engineer
RNZ has seen rapid audience growth across our digital channels as the appetite for independent public service media increases.
To keep up with demand we are embarking on an overhaul of our core platform so we can continue to innovate and build insights-driven, user-focused digital products that our audiences love.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Development & Product team with experience in delivering flexible, secure and performance software and systems. While our systems are primarily based on Ruby on Rails, the ideal candidate will have a grasp of other languages and frameworks and will strive to use the best tool for the job.
To succeed in this role you need to have a deep understanding of how software systems are created in the real world. You are not afraid to talk to people to validate requirements, challenge assumptions and have the experience to identify when problems don’t need a software solution. You are skilled at distilling information down into functional requirements and lead others in delivering software, including working with vendors and contributing to amending content production processes.
You are expected to help grow staff members and build team capabilities through championing high development standards and active collaboration. Ideally you’ll have experience working in a cross-functional environment and can provide technical leadership in broader product development discussions.
We offer an exciting opportunity to take an active role in building our digital capabilities and achieving our public service mandate through technology. We have flexible working arrangements and encourage involvement in the wider tech community.
This role is based in Wellington.
