First Up is RNZ’s early morning prelude to Morning Report.

Since 2019, First Up has offered early morning news and entertainment from 5am featuring a mix of world stories, correspondents, exclusive agenda-setting packages and interviews.

We’re after an experienced producer to join the lively, fun team and help continue to build on the audience and the great work First Up already does.

You will love breaking and explaining the news, be capable of packaging stories, have experience editing other people’s work (across audio and written pieces), be calm under pressure and have a good sense of humour.

This role is typically a day shift but there will be occasions where you might be required to fill in for the set-up producer/Executive producer as/when required.

Our ideal candidate will love working as part of a broader team and collaboratively with others. Experience successfully managing others is a must.

You’ll have a great track record for:

  • Planning and delivering work under tight deadlines;
  • Adopting an audience-first approach in exercising news judgement;

  • Leading in an inspiring way, helping solve problems in demanding situations and complex environments.
