The Purpose of the Senior Producer role is to generate great stories and guest content for "Afternoons" and "The Panel", delivering a vibrant, live experience for our audiences through strong research and angle generation, and the extension of our audience connection through on-line and social media.

You will generate strong news and human interest stories plus feature interviews for “Afternoons” from 1pm – 4pm and “The Panel” at 6-7pm in-line with the programme’s strategies, working in tandem with other producers on a roster pattern covering these shows.

You find and book high quality guests, as well as champion digital & social media engagement with audiences for both shows, in collaboration with the wider RNZ National teams where possible.  

You will contribute to long and short-term reviews of programme objectives, achievements and help to reset strategy where necessary.

Ōu Pūkenga - About You

  • Journalism degree or diploma - or equivalent relevant radio production experience.
  • Live radio production skills and demonstrable experience as a radio/news broadcast journalist over many years.
  • Wide general knowledge, well read with a wide range of interests, with excellent written communication and voice for radio.
  • Proven ability to work fast to meet daily deadlines, and high practical competency using radio operational systems, digital recording and editing equipment, and other tools.

This is a full-time role based in either Auckland or Wellington and forms part of a roster with other producers. The 40 hrs per week are all typically within 9am-7.30pm on weekdays, but will vary between the 2 shows.
