RNZ’s Checkpoint team is looking for a talented Reporter/Producer to help deliver a vibrant, live experience across radio and digital platforms. This is a dynamic role where you’ll use a range of storytelling techniques—visuals, video, graphics, live streaming, and sharp writing—to break news and engage audiences.

Te Mahi – About the job

  • Collaborating across RNZ teams to develop and deliver compelling editorial content
  • Upholding RNZ’s editorial standards and reputation for quality journalism
  • Generating and pitching story ideas daily
  • Writing sharp, concise intros, headlines, and supporting notes
  • Editing and processing audio packages and interviews for broadcast
  • Conducting well-researched, balanced interviews
  • Creating engaging online content tailored for rnz.co.nz and social platforms
  • Using digital tools and social media to expand RNZ’s reach
  • Applying sound knowledge of media law in all content
  • Contributing to a positive team culture and supporting other teams as needed
  • Representing RNZ publicly in line with its standards and values

Ōu Pūkenga - About You

  • A tertiary qualification in journalism or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience as a journalist across visual, written, and audio formats
  • Strong knowledge of national/international news and current affairs
  • Experience in live production and converged storytelling
  • Excellent writing and editing skills for online and broadcast
  • Confidence on camera or a willingness to develop this skill
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • A collaborative approach and strong relationship-building skills
  • A broadcast-quality voice and commitment to te reo Māori pronunciation
  • Initiative, creativity, and adaptability in a fast-evolving media landscape
