Te Mahi – About the job
Join RNZ’s national news team and co-produce one of our flagship news programmes. In this Wellington-based role, you’ll work alongside the Midday Report presenter to create compelling journalism and original stories for broadcast and digital.
Key responsibilities:
- Organise & produce coverage of major news stories for the day, including breaking news
- Line produce the Midday News hour
- Collaborate with presenters and editorial leaders across RNZ, producing original content for Morning Report, Midday Report & other RNZ News programmes.
- Develop story angles and content that evolves throughout the day
- Cover the Deputy Executive Editor due to leave or sickness if required
- Ensure RNZ’s Charter obligations are met and reflected in the RNZ strategy
- Collaborate with senior news leaders and colleagues to grow Midday Report’s reach and ensure it is a Must-Listen for the NZ Public.
- Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships which take an audience first approach
- Contribute to a positive, high-performing newsroom
Ōu Pūkenga - About You
You’ll bring sound editorial judgment and a passion for high-impact journalism.
You’ll also have:
- Experience producing live radio or news programming across multiple platforms
- Strong editorial skills with a track record of producing original content
- Confidence managing breaking news in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
- Demonstrated understanding and confidence in the use of social media platforms and a familiarity with tools for audience engagement and analytics.
- Ability to think and act strategically with the ability to quickly grasp complex global news issues
- Proven achievement and credibility as a journalist who sets and achieves high professional standards.
- A commitment to public media journalism and diverse storytelling
