 Te Mahi – About the job

Increase our Māori content, protect, promote and normalise the use of te reo Māori, empower our staff to navigate Te Ao Māori and strengthen and develop new partnerships with Māori content creators. 

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to help develop the new Māori strategy and is passionate about Māori news and issues in Aotearoa and who can lead and work with a small, dedicated team. The role will work closely with senior RNZ News leaders to share Māori story-telling across all RNZ’s platforms. 

Ngā Pūkenga – Skills

We are looking for a journalist with a reputation for breaking original stories and the necessary experience to manage our Māori News team:

  •  Be as comfortable reporting live on breaking news as you are in providing background analysis, be skilled in multi-media, and adept at driving content which meets the needs of a wide audience across Aotearoa. 
  • You will have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Te Ao Māori, te reo Māori and ngā tikanga. 
  • You will be committed to the highest standards of journalism and be confident working across multiple platforms – including radio, digital, visual and social.
