Māori News Director

We are looking for a dynamic and astute senior journalist to lead Te Manu Korihi Māori News team and bring RNZ’s Māori strategy to life.

RNZ has committed to an increase in Māori content, the protection, promotion and normalisation of the use of te reo Māori, the empowerment of our staff to navigate Te Ao Māori and to strengthen and develop new partnerships with Māori content creators.

You will need to be passionate about Māori news and issues in Aotearoa and have the experience to lead and work alongside a small, dedicated team.

We are looking for a journalist with a reputation for breaking original stories, and as comfortable reporting live on breaking news as providing background analysis.

You will need to be skilled in multi-media, adept at driving content which meets the needs of a wide audience, and, most crucially, have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Te Ao Māori, te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.

And, you will be committed to the highest standards of journalism and be confident working across multiple platforms – including radio, digital, visual and social.

The role will work closely with senior RNZ News leaders to share Māori story-telling across all RNZ’s platforms.

This role could be based in Wellington or Auckland.

Please note:  A complete application includes your covering letter and a CV.

Applications close 5pm Sunday 30 June 2019

RNZ is committed to the principles and practices of Equal Employment Opportunity and welcome applicants who will help us reflect New Zealand’s cultural and ethnic diversity.
