Local Democracy Reporter – Marlborough

Are you an outstanding reporter looking for a new challenge in public interest journalism?

Stuff, with the support of RNZ and NZ On Air’s Public Interest Journalism Fund, is hiring a journalist on a two-year fixed term to join Local Democracy Reporting.

The project, which is modelled on a successful BBC-funded scheme in the UK, places reporters in regional newsrooms around New Zealand. You will work in Marlborough exclusively covering local authorities and other publicly-funded organisations. You will report to Stuff’s Marlborough editor but will receive extra training and support from RNZ, and your work will be made available at the same time to all of the programme’s media partners, including RNZ.

You will be expected to file daily news copy, as well as images, audio and video as required. Multimedia training will be provided.

You'll be comfortable coming up with your own ideas and working under minimal supervision.

We're looking for someone who meets these criteria:

  • At least two years’ experience in daily news journalism – more is fine too
  • Able to meet the highest standards of accuracy, fairness and balance
  • Able to work effectively under deadline pressure
  • Working knowledge of media law
  • Full driver's licence
  • Legally entitled to work in NZ

This is a full-time role for a fixed term through to 31 December 2023.

Applications close: Midday, Wednesday 27 October 2021. Please apply for this position through the Seek version of this job ad: https://www.seek.co.nz/job/54340363
