RNZ is New Zealand’s only non-commercial public multimedia organisation and exists solely to serve the public interest by providing unique, impartial services and content to all New Zealanders.

Part of RNZ’s strategy involves continuing to expand our digital content and distribution to connect with a growing and increasingly diverse audience.

In this role you will be responsible for the overall quality of RNZ’s homepage design and production, including working across RNZ to identify the best available news and feature content, as well as training and mentoring others in the digital team in delivering to our digital strategy.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the publication of up-to-the-minute news and content.
  • Encouraging an audience first approach and varying story-telling to best effect.
  • Identifying opportunities to capture audience attention, maximise live audience experiences, and return site visits.
  • Assisting in planning coverage of major breaking events.
  • Using analytics to guide decision making.
  • Leading the team in respect to website and homepage ideas and identify ongoing learning and development.

Ōu Pūkenga - About You

To be successful in this role you will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Journalism and experience as a senior web journalist.
  • Proven credibility and high professional standards as a journalist – and expertise in writing specifically for web.
  • Wide breadth of knowledge of the NZ media sector, industry associated technology, audience metric and engagement analytics and strategy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, exercise sound judgement and act decisively under time pressure.
