Te Mahi – About the job

As Executive Producer, you’ll lead editorial decision-making for RNZ’s flagship drive-time news programme. You’ll help set the news agenda, contributing to coverage of breaking news and major events, exclusive news stories and the stories that matter and fascinate New Zealanders. You’ll lead and mentor a talented team of producers and reporters. You’ll be comfortable making decisive editorial calls, developing people and talent and working collaboratively with other news leaders.

Ōu Pūkenga – About You

Leading and working as part of a team in a high energy programming environment, you’ll need: 

  • A recognised journalism qualification or equivalent industry experience, with a strong track record in news and current affairs.
  • Extensive experience leading and delivering high-quality daily news or current affairs programmes in a fast-paced newsroom environment that informs, engages and grows audiences.
  • Strong experience leading teams through breaking news and complex editorial situations with confidence and composure.
  • Significant expertise in reporting, producing and delivering national and international news stories.
  • Sound knowledge of media law, editorial standards and journalistic ethics, with excellent editorial judgement.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, resources and competing priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching capability, with a passion for developing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, fostering collaboration across teams and stakeholders.
  • A resilient, proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to thrive under pressure, respond to evolving stories and support the growth of others.
