Te Mahi – About the job

This role is responsible for the daily delivery of a dynamic, thoughtful and reliably good Afternoons programme. The EP manages a small team of producers, has a close working relationship with the presenter, and communicates clearly and consistently across the organisation with other EPs, stand-in producers, news and digital teams. This role reports to the National Content Director and is one of our radio leaders, helping to shape and implement RNZ National’s live listening strategy.

RNZ is New Zealand’s only non-commercial public multimedia organisation and exists solely to serve the public interest by providing unique, impartial services and content to all New Zealanders.

An outstanding executive producer for Afternoons will:

  • Create a performance culture, where outstanding work is expected and celebrated.
  • Be responsible for the team delivering high quality, engaging, varied and well-produced interviews and stories every weekday.
  • Have a warm, professional and constructive relationship with the presenter. 
  • Ensure that RNZ Editorial Policies are understood and adhered to at all times.
  • Identify and develop multi-media opportunities from the content created for Afternoons.

Ōu Pūkenga - About You

  • Journalism degree or diploma - or equivalent (which may be achieved through relevant radio production experience)
  • Significant experience leading a high-profile media programme or platform
  • An understanding of modern audience patterns
  • Cultural sensitivity
