We are looking for a Developer to join our Product & Development team, responsible for building insights-driven, user-focused digital products that our audiences love.
In this role, you’ll be working on our internal publishing systems as well as our audience and partner facing products. Our current focus is to improve and modernise our content production systems so this will be an initial focus for this role. It will over time shift to development of new audience and B2B products to satisfy the constantly growing demand for RNZ’s independent content.
We are looking for someone with experience in delivering web software that is flexible, highly available and secure and can cope with high traffic and rate of change. Our existing systems are primarily written in Ruby on Rails, however we are actively evaluating our options as we progress through our modernisation programme and seek to use the best tool for the job, Ruby or otherwise.
You are a strong communicator, ideally with media experience and comfortable working in cross-functional teams. You are not afraid to talk to people to validate requirements, challenge assumptions and have the experience to identify when problems don’t need a software solution. You are skilled at distilling information down into functional requirements and can work with vendors and peers to develop systems that contain elements outside of your control.
You will have a clear opinion but can compromise and adapt to changing requirements and constructively work with others to deliver products that meet audience and business requirements.
This is a great chance for someone to contribute to the on-going transformation of RNZ into a full media organisation.
We offer an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team that values learning and significantly contributes to RNZ’s public service mandate. We have flexible working arrangements and encourage involvement in the wider tech community.
This role is based in Wellington.
