Day Live News Editor

Are you on the alert for one of the most dynamic and challenging jobs in the RNZ Newsroom?

We’re looking for a Day Live News Editor to drive our morning news coverage from 6am, online and on air.

You’ll make the best of use of our original stories on Morning Report and Nine to Noon, as well as any stories which may have broken overnight or in the early hours.

You’ll be as adept at commissioning copy as you are audio and visuals, and will love the opportunity to file yourself or go live on radio when the story demands.

You will need a track record in managing breaking news, delivering original stories, be able to grasp complex situations quickly, communicate concisely and effortlessly, think laterally, and remain calm at all times.

You’ll be a person people love to talk to and work for, and you will be skilled at using persuasion rather than authority to make things happen.

And, you’ll need to know when to consult across RNZ, devise coverage plans and implement them speedily while remaining flexible at all times.

But above all you’ll need to be committed to public interest stories, and know how to turn a worthy tale into an irresistible piece of journalism.

If this is you, send us your application by close of business on Wednesday 24th October.

The position is based in Wellington. The starting date is January 2019.

RNZ is committed to the principles and practices of Equal Employment Opportunity and welcome applicants who will help us reflect New Zealand’s cultural and ethnic diversity.
